Today we’re launching a partnership with Greenhouse Life Insurance (recently launched from RGAx) and Amica Life that lets qualified Cardiogram users claim $1,000 of accidental death coverage for 12 months — at no cost.

Some early coverage:

The program is live today for residents of Wisconsin, Arizona, Indiana, and Georgia, between the ages of 25–60, who are citizens or permanent residents. Over time, we plan to launch in more states as regulatory approvals come in—you can pre-register to be notified when the program launches in your state.

For people who want more, you can upgrade to up to $500,000 of coverage for $9-$41 per month.

What’s the motivation behind this program?

Since wearable heart rate sensors are shifting healthcare from reactive to preventive, life and health insurers are realizing this creates a chance to save dollars by saving lives.

Take sleep apnea, for instance. One of the leading causes of accidental death is car crashes, if you have undiagnosed sleep apnea, your risk of a car crash is 2.5x higher, and 80% of sleep apnea is undiagnosed. Cardiogram previously showed that you can detect sleep apnea, hypertension, diabetes, and atrial fibrillation with the heart rate sensor on wearables like Apple Watch, WearOS by Google, and Garmin.

This program is a first step in the direction of building a new type of insurance that lowers your premiums by helping you be healthy.

What is accidental death insurance? Why would I want it, and how can I get it?

Accidental death insurance protects the financial future of your loved ones in the case of a fatal accident. Unlike term life insurance or whole life insurance, AD insurance has no deductible, does not require a medical exam, and is generally quick and easy to obtain.

The offer is available within the Cardiogram app on the profile tab—just switch to the profile tab, tap the “life insurance” section, choose your state (left), and you’ll see the offer.

If you’re in a state where the program hasn’t yet launched, you can register to be notified of the program, or choose from alternative offers that are live in your state.

Which wearables are eligible?

The offer works with any wearable the Cardiogram app is compatible with, including Apple Watch (Series 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4), WearOS by Google ((including Huawei Watch, LG Watch Sport, LG Watch Urbane, Moto 360, New Balance RunIQ, Polar M600, Misfit Vapor, and Mobvoi Ticwatch S&E), and Garmin (Forerunner, Fenix, and Vivoactive series).

How is my privacy safeguarded?

No data is shared without your explicit consent, and your wearable data isn’t used to change your rates or deny you coverage—accidental death insurance is guaranteed issue and the rates are fixed.

Who’s behind this new partnership?

This is a partnership between three companies: Greenhouse, Amica, and Cardiogram. Greenhouse Life Insurance Company is a multi-state life and disability insurer founded in 2018 by RGAx, the transformation engine of Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated. Amica Life (AmicaLifeLessons.com) offers life insurance and retirement products directly to customers, earning a rating of A+ (Superior) from A.M. Best. And if you’re on this blog, you probably know Cardiogram!
